Known for its remarkable strength and endurance, boron carbide (B₄C) is a lightweight, incredibly hard ceramic substance. Often referred to as "black diamond," it ranks third in hardness, behind diamond and cubic boron nitride. Because of its low density and high melting point of roughly 2,450°C, boron carbide finds extensive application in tank protection, bulletproof vests, and armor plating. It is useful in abrasives, cutting tools, and nozzles because of its resistance to wear. In nuclear reactors, boron carbide is crucial because it efficiently absorbs neutrons. It is a flexible material for industrial and defense applications that is chemically inert and resistant to the majority of acids.
